Tigers Woes Continue, Fall in Opener to the Chi Sox
The Detroit Tigers returned home after making history Wednesday to only be burned by a former Tiger Thursday.
The Chicago White Sox came into Motown and mowed down the Tigers in the first of a four-game weekend series with a 17-7 score. It's the sixth straight loss for the Tigers and 14th defeat in their last 20 games. Former Tiger outfielder Avisail Garcia crushed Detroit with a 5-for-5 day and driving in seven runs. Yoan Moncada and Jose Abreu also had four hits each, part of a 25-hit afternoon for the Chi Sox.
The Tigers had a few highlights of their own smacking four solo homers. Miguel Cabrera (16) and Nicholas Castellanos (22) each had two hits on the afternoon including their round-trippers. Jeimer Candelario also added two hits, including his first homer with the Tigers following a mid-season trade with the Chicago Cubs. Ian Kinsler added his 18th homer in the ninth inning.
Chad Bell fell to 0-3 on the season in his third career start, allowing six runs in his 3 1/3 innings. Eight Tiger pitchers were used on the afternoon.
The Tigers and White Sox return to action Friday night in the second game of the series. Anibal Sanchez (3-4, 7.43 ERA) gets his second start from the disabled list for Detroit, while the White Sox send out Carson Fulmer (2-1, 6.00 ERA).
