This is something every year that has been done to help kids track Santa as he makes his way around the world delivering toys. This tradition of tracking Santa using NORAD started in 1955 when a young child accidentally dialed the unlisted phone number of the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, believing she was calling Santa Claus after seeing a promotion in a local newspaper. Air Force Colonel Harry Shoup, who was commander on duty that night, was quick to realize a mistake had been made, and assured the youngster that CONAD would guarantee Santa a safe journey from the North Pole. The tradition was born on that day but eventually turned into NORAD in 1958, and they report on Santa's location on Dec. 24 to millions across the globe.

Now tons of people look to Norad Tracks Santa as they took almost 126,000 phone calls, as well as 18 Million website hits, and had 1.8 million Facebook followers and 179,000+ Twitter followers. If your kids wants to call and find out where Santa is or even pass along a message… the number is 1-877-HI-NORAD.
