As many people now know is Congressman Upton has decided to call it a career after 18 terms in the U.S. Congress.  Yesterday morning Congressman Upton informed us all that he has decided to hang up his election shoes and call it a career.

Due to Michigan losing a congressional seat/district Rep. Upton was looking at a very strong primary challenge from Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga.  Bill currently represents Michigan's 2nd Congressional District.  The district spans from Kentwood to the lakeshore and up the coast of Lake Michigan from Holland to Ludington.

In a statement Rep. Huizenga said:“I want to thank Fred for his commitment, service, and dedication to Michigan over the years. Fred and I have worked together on a host of issues including prioritizing the protection of the Great Lakes, leveling the playing field for Michigan agriculture, and supporting efforts to clean up PFAS and lead contamination. Fred’s statesman-like legacy will be remembered both in Michigan and our nation’s capital. I wish both he and Amy the best as they start their next chapter.

The newly created 4th Congressional District includes all of Allegan and Van Buren counties, and portions of Ottawa, Kalamazoo, Berrien and Calhoun counties, including the cities of Kalamazoo and Holland.

Now that Congressman Huizenga is the last Republican standing in the newly created 4th Congressional District why don’t we find out who Bill is?  According to his website:

Bill was born and raised in Zeeland, Michigan.  He currently resides there with his wife, Natalie, and their five children. His children are the reason he ran for public office and inspire him to strive for an environment of prosperity for their generation – one that will encourage job creation through private sector growth, spending cuts, reducing the size of government, and keeping Americans safe both at home and abroad.  Growing up, Bill attended Holland Christian High School, and later received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Calvin College.

Congressman Huizenga is a small business owner: Bill is co-owner of Huizenga Gravel, a third-generation, family-run sand and gravel small business located in Georgetown Township.  Being a small business owner he understands the challenges of running a small business.

On some of the issues Congressman Huizenga’s thoughts and beliefs are:

  • Restoring Economic Security and Opportunity: Out-of-control spending by Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi has caused inflation to soar to levels not seen in 40 years. This makes everything from gas to groceries more expensive. Bill supports ending Washington’s addiction to spending, shrinking the size and scope of government, and supporting policies that enhance economic opportunity for Michiganders from all walks of life.
  • Defending Our Freedoms: Bill is an ardent defender of our Constitutional liberties. Bill has been a vocal opponent of Big Tech’s efforts to censor conservatives as well as efforts to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.
  • Improving Border Security: In March, Bill visited our southern border to see first-hand the crisis President Biden’s policies have created. Bill is committed to restoring border integrity by providing border patrol agents with the equipment, technology, and manpower to effectively secure the border.
  • Restoring Congressional Oversight: All across the federal government, the Biden Administration is using Executive Branch Agencies to enact a radical regulatory agenda that cannot be passed through Congress. Whether it is the SEC or another part of the alphabet soup in Washington, Bill will hold the Biden Administration accountable for its massive big-government agenda.

Due to Congressman Upton decision not to run for a 19th term and retiring yesterday Congressman Huizenga is currently running unopposed in the Republican primary
