Where to Try Winter Olympic Sports Around Michigan

The Winter Olympics roll around every four years. And for those two weeks of the games, we care about obscure sports like curling, luge, biathon and skeleton. Ever wanted to try some of these sports after seeing them on TV?

Here are some places where you can try Winter Olympic sports around Michigan.

Luge

The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex is the spot for luge in Michigan. The track is 850 feet long and racers and reach a speed of 30 miles per hour.

Curling

With 9 Curling Clubs around the state of Michigan, there is a very good chance you know someone who curls. Curling Clubs regularly host "Learn to Curl" events to introduce more people to the sport. Curling Clubs in Michigan are found in Ann Arbor, Calumet near Houghton, Gladsone, Detroit, Kalamzoo, Lansing, Midland, Lewiston and Traverse City.

Speedskating

There are 5 speedskating clubs in Michigan: Midland, Petoskey, Ann Arbor, Detroit and Grand Rapids. Club members get to experience the exhiliration of the long-bladed speed skating sport.

Ski Jumping

What to get real air jumping off a ski hill? There are two spots in Michigan's Upper Peninsula that give daredevils some of the best ski jumping in the country. Copper Peak is in Ironwood and Pine Mountain is in Iron Mountain.

Biathlon

Cross-country skiing and rifle shooting: want to try this oddball sport? The Michigan Biathlon Association is located in Ishpeming. Sportsmen and Conservation Clubs around Michigan do offer the chance to try biathloning (is that a verb?) such as the Washtenaw Club near Ann Arbor.
