The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has a warning for medical marijuana dispensaries: you can't actually call yourself a dispensary.

LARA says in a release Monday that they want to clarify the use of “dispensary” and other terms by medical marijuana provisioning centers, in regards to state law.

They say that under state law, provisioning centers cannot call themselves a dispensary, pharmacy, or drug store, nor use those and other terms in their advertising. In fact, medical marijuana facilities cannot use any of these following terms:

  • pharmacy
  • pharmacist
  • Pharm.D
  • doctor of pharmacy
  • pharmacy intern
  • pharmacy technician
  • licensed pharmacy technician
  • certified pharmacy technician
  • CPhT
  • apothecary
  • dispensary
  • drugstore
  • druggist
  • medicine store
  • prescriptions
  • r.ph.

Only certain people who meet the qualifications under Part 177 of the Michigan Public Health Code can use these terms.
