With the Tigers coming off a 10-7, rally victory on Monday, Tuesday night’s game could not have been more different.  Instead of a slug fest, fans were treated to a pitcher’s duel between Justin Verlander and Royals’ starter Eric Skoglund. Skoglund was making his first major league start, and pitched a 3-hit shutout.

Verlander kept the Royals off the board, until the 6th. Three singles led to the only run of the game, with first baseman Eric Hosmer getting the eventual game-winning RBI.

Tiger hitters were shut out for the third time in the last ten games. While Tiger relievers did their job, keeping the Royals off the board, Tiger bats would remain quiet to end the game. Iglesias would get on base in the 8th, but was caught stealing second, to end the inning.

In seven innings of pitching, Verlander gave up 1 run on 6 hits, with just 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Alex Wilson gave up a hit in the 8th, but no runs.

The Tigers wrap up their three game series with Kansas City Wednesday night, and also wrap up their twelve game road trip, before taking on the White Sox again, Friday night in Comerica Park. Wednesday night’s match up will pair Matt Boyd (2-5  5.40 ERA) up against Royal starter, Ian Kennedy (0-4  4.43 ERA).   Hear the game at 7:50 on 95.3 WBCK.
