Four Stations Respond to Large Warehouse Fire in Portage
Investigators will be on site Wednesday following the fire of a warehouse Tuesday night near Shaver Road in Portage.
The Portage Department of Public Safety responded to the call around 9:30pm to the J. Rettenmaier warehouse on Vanderbilt Avenue. When firefighters arrived, three-quarters of the building was engulfed in flames.
Fire departments from Osthemo, Comstock and Texas townships were called to help put the fire out. It took almost an hour before the fire was under control. One Portage unit stayed on to put out the hot spots.
Authorities report that no civilians or responders were hurt during the fire. At this time, no cause has been determined.
According to J. Rettenmeier's LinkedIn page, the warehouse is part of a food production company that employs up to 10 people.
