We have been hearing from the left over the last two decades that it is time to completely ignore our Constitution and not elect our president via the Electoral College.  Why, because they are losing the Electoral College in some of the Presidential races.

Do you think it is time, I certainly do not and I recently read an article written by Walter Williams, an American economist, commentator, academic who holds the John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics at George Mason University, which could not explain why we should not ignore the Constitution?

He believes that most of the people who believe we should abolish the Electoral College are simply miseducated by their public schools and universities.  Regarding miseducation of our youth he points to the founder of the Russian Communist Party, Vladimir Lenin, who famously said, "Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted." He then reminds us that his immediate successor, Josef Stalin, added, "Education is a weapon whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed."  That sure is what the left has been doing for decades when they took over public education, the proof of that is what we see displayed everyday on air and in the streets.

Regarding whether we are a democracy or a republic he writes:

“In fact, our Constitution -- in Article 4, Section 4 -- guarantees "to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government." The Founding Fathers had utter contempt for democracy. James Madison, in Federalist Paper No. 10, said that in a pure democracy, "there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party or an obnoxious individual." At the 1787 Constitutional Convention, Virginia Gov. Edmund Randolph said that "in tracing these evils to their origin, every man had found it in the turbulence and follies of democracy." John Adams wrote: "Remember Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a Democracy Yet, that did not commit suicide." At the Constitutional Convention, Alexander Hamilton said: "We are now forming a republican government. Real liberty" is found not in "the extremes of democracy but in moderate governments. ... If we incline too much to democracy, we shall soon shoot into a monarchy."

We must remember and apparently not only teach our children but many elected politicians from a certain party that our Founders saw our nation as being comprised of individual sovereign states that voluntarily sought to join a union.  These states and their citizens agreed to join the union under the condition that each state admitted would be coequal with every other state.  Why would they have joined the union if not promised that in our Constitution?

That is exactly what our Electoral College method of choosing the president and vice president not only does but guarantees that each state in this union, whether large or small in area or population, has a voice in selecting the nation's leaders.  In affect selecting a co-leader to their state.

We must remember that the United States is comprised of individual states that each have their own power.  A big problem today is that many of us have forgotten or have not be taught by these great public educational schools that the United States government is not the end all be all of our government.  Quite frankly that is why we have so many problems today with our federal government because so many states have abdicated their leadership role in this country for the shekels the federal government hands out.

As Walter Williams points out, just think what would happen if we were we to choose the president and vice president under a popular vote?  That would mean that approximately 6 states would more than likely choose our President.  Those states would be California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois and Pennsylvania, which contain 134.3 million people, or 41% of our population.

Definitely the citizens of Wyoming, Alaska, Vermont, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Delaware would be ignored and would not in the end have a say in who leads the Federal government.  Why?  Because they have only 5.58 million Americans, or 1.7% of the U.S. population.
