Michigan, Stop It! Woman Steals Cop Car After Arrest

Look, I know we love to give Ohio a hard time for all the ridiculous news that seems to come out of that state. I'm from Florida. I get it. But today, I hate to say it, we have to call out someone in Kalamazoo. Or at least close to Kalamazoo.

Just a couple of days ago, police in St. Joseph responded to a single vehicle crash at around 3am, as reported by MLive.com. Now, at the top of the article it says "Kalamazoo" which made me go...uh oh. I guess because St Joseph is close? I'm confused on that front. But, regardless, this is a crazy story.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated which, no surprise there. When I read about crashes that early in the morning I'm automatically assuming a substance is involved or someone was simply exhausted. However, this is where the story gets interesting.

The driver, a 25 year old woman from Sturgis, took advantage of the fact that the officers were distracted searching her car and managed to slip out of her handcuffs while in the back of the police car. She then crawled through the partition and stole the cop car.

Obviously, I wasn't there. But, the first thing that popped into my head when I read this is that scene from Holes where Shia LaBeouf's character steals the water truck. Here's a reminder.

Much like that scene, the chase didn't last long. The driver managed to get through one intersection before she crashed into a utility pole and several trees. She then exited the vehicle and tried to escape on foot. She was caught about 100 yards later.

The driver was arrested and charged with operating without insurance, motor vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, false identification to police and leaving the scene of a crash. Since the driver is from Sturgis...and this incident happened in St. Joseph...Kalamazoo is off the hook for this one.

Moral of the story: don't drink and drive, kids. Or do drugs and drive. In fact, if you're still awake and its after 2am just stay home. Nothing good ever happens after 2am.
