Actor, husband and father Kirk Douglas passed away yesterday at the age of 103. With that chiseled jaw and steely blue eyes, he went on to be one of Hollywoods leading men.

Yesterday Kirk's eldest son Michael Douglas announced "with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103"..  "to the world, he was a legend, an actor from the Golden Age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice  and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to".

When Kirk Douglas turned 99, he and his wife donated $15 million dollars toward a new $35 million dollar care center at the Motion Picture Television Fund Home in Woodland Hills California.

Douglas left a legacy that included some 90 films and TV series over 60 years in the business, including a career-defining role as the sword-swinging gladiator lead in "Spartacus".

Not bad for the oldest son of Jewish immigrants from Russia, who's father sold rags to support his family.

No details on funeral or a possible memorial have yet been released.
