WWMT, NewsChannel 3 is reporting that FedEx has confirmed it will take over the planned Portage Spartan Distribution Center at 6701 Portage Road. The report says the move could mean up to 900 new jobs.

"The site was chosen because of its ease of access to major highways, proximity to customers' distribution centers and a strong local community workforce for recruiting employees," FedEx spokesman David Westrick said in an email confirming the delivery company is moving to Portage. - WWMT report

The location is along Portage Road between Kenco Logistics and Stryker Corp. The appeal of the site is its proximity to Interstate 94, plus being a Brownfield project, the cost. According to the report, the hope is to have the facility up and running in less than two years.

The report quotes the FedEx spokesperson, David Westrick, who said "The new facility is part of a nationwide network expansion to boost daily package volume capacity and further enhance the speed and service capabilities of the FedEx Ground network,"
