This is the Very Tip of Michigan’s Thumb and You Can’t Visit It – a Trip to Turnip Rock
Turnip Rock is the very tip of Michigan's Thumb - and it's one of the more difficult spots in Michigan to visit.
The tip of the thumb is roughly 10 miles from Port Austin in the township of Ponte Aux Barques. The township, the smallest in the state of Michigan, has a population of just 10 people and is composed of a private, gated resort community.
Because Turnip Rock is on private property, the only way to see this tip of the Thumb, Michigan's 'Thumbnail,' is by kayak as Lake Huron is navigable by anyone.
