Well it did not take long for someone to declare they will challenge Congressman Amash in the upcoming Republican Primary for Michigan’s 3rd District.

You probably have heard or read the Twitter storm that Congressman Amash unleashed last Saturday.  He tweeted that he has now completed reading the full Mueller report and believes that President Trump “engaged in impeachable conduct”.  What lead him to believe that President Trump “engaged in impeachable conduct” he did not tell us in any of his tweets.

State Representative James Lower, from Michigan’s 70th District said today that he plans to challenge Congressman Amash in the Republican primary in 2020.  He stated that he believes Congressman Amash is "out of touch" with his district.

first elected to the Michigan House in 2016. He represents the 70th District, which includes Montcalm County and portions of Gratiot County including the cities of Alma and St. Louis as well as portions of Arcada and Emerson townships and the townships of Bethany, Pine River and Seville

Jim serves as chair of the House Local Government and Municipal Finance Committee and vice chair of the Tax Policy Committee, as well as a member of the Energy and Health Policy committees.

Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University.

Jim worked as Executive Director for a small national consulting firm. He was also a legislative assistant in both the Michigan House and Michigan Senate

Representative Lower is a Greenville Republican and stated he is a Trump supporter.  According to a statement he released he was planning to launch his primary campaign around the Fourth of July, but then adjusted his timetable after Congressman Amash's statements on impeachment.

In that statement he said:

Congressman Justin Amash tweets yesterday calling for President Trump’s impeachment show how out of touch he is with the truth and how out of touch he is with people he represents…Amash has not only failed to support President Trump as the president works to make the United States stronger and safer, he has now united with radical liberals like Democratic congresswomen Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) to try and bring down our president. He must be replaced, and I am going to do it.

Congressman Amash won his last reelection by 11% points, defeating Democrat Cathy Albro.

Would you now be open to consider voting for a primary challenger against Congressman Amash?  Or do you believe that Congressman Amash is standing on principal and for that he deserves another run for his 6th term?

Are you in Michigan's 3rd Congressional District?  That District includes Kent, Barry, Ionia, Montcalm and Calhoun counties and part of Grand Rapids.
