Four Calhoun and Branch County residents have been charged with multiple felonies for their alleged plan to abduct a child and sexually torture them to death.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office says Friday that 32-year-old Matthew Toole of Battle Creek, 32-year-old Talia Furman of Springfield, 19-year-old Jayme LaPointe of Athens, and 37-year-old David Bailey of Coldwater, were all charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping, and Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.

A Michigan State Police investigation uncovered evidence, that they say indicates these four were planning on kidnapping a random young child at a county fair, and then torturing and sexually abusing them until they died. They then planned on disposal of the body. Furman, Toole, and LaPointe were already in custody for sexual assault and child abuse charges.

All three of these new charges carry a sentence up to life in prison. The suspects are awaiting arraignment in Branch County.
