Seeing the wreck on I-94 has me feeling melancholy and introspective.

We get so involved in the petty little things that add up to the stresses of our lives, and then in an instance, everything can change. Things can immediately turn and become crystal clear. Tragically, it takes some kind of disaster — large or small — to bring that perspective to us.

I remember several years ago, a driver was killed on I-94 near Kalamazoo, when a tire off a truck flew through the windshield of the car trailing it. The driver, who was killed, was the father of my son's friend. Just like that. Everything changed. 9/11. Everything changed, just like that. Earlier this week in Paris. Just like that.

My only point is. Make sure you tell everyone important in your life that you love them. And give them a hug.

In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get pretty strange
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute

Lying here in the darkness
I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency
Somebody's going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door
(New York Minute, Don Henley)
