Summer Flooding Hits Mid-Michigan [VIDEOS]
Two mid-Michigan cities took the brunt of an overnight rain storm that passed over the Lower Peninsula last night (June 23). See the aftermath of flooding in Midland and Mount Pleasant.
Midland
The Midland area received up to 7 inches of rain from the storm that has pushed the Tittabawassee River to major flood stage. The Midland Daily News reports,
“We have received a lot of rain,” Midland County Emergency Management Coordinator Jenifier Boyer said, adding more than 5 inches of rain had fallen by 4 a.m. on places that have already absorbed heavy rain in the last few days. “We’ve had places flooded that don’t normally flood.”
The revised National Weather Service flood warning for the county states the Tittabawassee River is at 23.3 feet and rising, and the newly predicted crest is set for 31.5 feet about noon Saturday. Flood stage is 24 feet.
Mount Pleasant
The Mount Pleasant Morning Sun tells a similar tale in Isabella County where US 127 was closed at Rosebush due to flooding and
Much of M-20 is closed and police officers starting morning shifts are waiting for instructions from Isabella County Central Dispatch on where they are needed first.
“Everything is under water and there are cars abandoned everywhere,” one officer said.
More than six inches of rain fell in Isabella since 9 p.m. Thursday.
